Calgary Young People’s Theatre is pleased to announce the return of SPRING BREAK CAMPS, running March 26-30, 2012. Join us for a week of fun, adventure and of course drama. Camps are available for youth ages 4-17 at the Unitarian Church of Calgary, 1703-1 Street NW.

PRE-SCHOOL CAMP

If you know a young budding thespian who is always performing, than this is the perfect camp for them. Our youngsters will explore drama, voice and movement through various games, exercises and crafts focusing on building confidence, creativity and social skills. The week will conclude with a final performance for friends and family to attend on Friday March 30, 2011 at 11:30am.

FULL DAY CAMP

Campers will explore various theatrical skills with a number of different instructors including improvisation, voice, movement, storytelling, script writing and character building among others. In the afternoon, the groups will work with one instructor to create a play that will be performed on the final day of camp at 3:00pm for friends and family. Our teen group will focus on a particular specialized skill in the afternoons to create a performance from.

PLEASE NOTE: Registration in a camp is guaranteed ONLY when payment is received in FULL. CYPT reserves the right to cancel camps due to insufficient enrolment. In event of cancellation by CYPT, full refunds will be provided.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refunds (less a $30.00 administration fee) are available if registration needs to be cancelled prior to your camp starting. No refunds are available if the camp has already started, unless a doctor’s note is provided.

CYPT is pleased to offer our brand new referral program. CYPT relies heavily on word of mouth to help spread the news about our programs. If you refer someone to our camps, they will need to put your name in the HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT US section of the application and you will receive 10% off your next registration, whether it be for fall or winter classes or our productions, or summer programs. You will have one year to take advantage of 10% off.

Registering more than one child in your family?
CYPT is pleased to offer a discount to families who are registering two or more children in our summer camps. Buy one summer camp and receive 20% off the second camp of equal or lesser value. Please call the office for the discount code before registering. 403-230-2664

PRE AND POST CARE PROGRAMS
CYPT offers pre-camp care from 7:30am-8:45am and post-camp care from 4:15pm-5:30pm. We do not offer post-camp care for the ½ day campers. All pre and post care is $3.00 per session per child. Please contact the office to set up pre and post care sessions. Payment can be made on a day-to-day basis OR at the end of the week. CYPT will accept cash or cheques payable to Calgary Young People’s Theatre for pre/post care.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Where are camps located?
Calgary Young People’s Theatre has been running camps and classes out of the Unitarian Church for several years. They are extremely supportive of our organization and what it has to offer. We are pleased to be offering our spring break camp here this year. 1703- 1st Street NW

2. What are camp hours?
Full Day & Teen: 9:00am-4:00pm. Lunch Break is 12:00pm-1:00pm
Half Day: 9:00am-12:00pm

3. Will my child be put in groups of children who are much older or younger than they are?
The first day of camp, children are separated into groups according to their age or grade in school. Our student to teacher ratio is 12:1 for full day drama camp and 8:1 for half day drama camps.

4. What do the children do all day?
The day starts out with an entire group warm-up led by one of our instructors. Than your children are off to various workshops in the morning covering various theatrical skills including voice and music, movement and choreography, storytelling and playwriting, improvisation and character work among other skills. In the afternoons, children will spend time with one instructor developing a play that is created by the children and performed at the end of the week for friends and family. During lunch, everyone goes outside for supervised play, weather pending of course, relaxation, games and fresh air. At the end of the day, the entire camp comes back together for drama Olympics!

Half day campers spend their morning with one instructor and a camp assistant, learning various theatrical skills that culminate in a presentation for friends and family.

Teen campers will spend their mornings moving through various drama workshops, and in the afternoon will be working on a specialized performance skill to create a show.

5. Who are your staff members?
Drama camp instructors include professional actors, writers, directors, and teachers with university and college degrees and post secondary students. We also hire CYPT alumni, or high school students with backgrounds in theatre to work as camp assistants. All instructors are required to get a Police Security Clearance Check prior to the start of camp.

6. Is there childcare available before or after camp?
Yes, we offer pre-camp care starting at 7:30am and post-camp care until 5:30pm. We do not offer post-camp care for half day campers. All pre and post camp care is $3.00 per session per child.

7. Can my teenager leave campus at lunch time?
Yes, if permission is granted by the parents of the student. Please click here for more information and to find the permission form.

8. Do you offer bursary programs?
Yes, CYPT has a strong bursary program that offers lower income families a chance to apply to have up to half their program fees covered. Please call the office at 403-230-2664 to request a bursary application or for more information.
