CYPT to present The Tempest as first show of 08/09 Spotlight Season

CALGARY, AB – For the last five years, Calgary Young People’s Theatre has been offering Calgary teens the ultimate summer performance experience! CYPT’s Summer Conservatory program has brought together professional directors, stage managers, designers and production teams with eager young actors aged 10-17. This three week intensive rehearsal process culminates in a five performance run, making it very similar to a professional acting experience! This year, CYPT will present William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, August 6-9, at The Engineered Air Theatre, to begin it’s 2008/09 Spotlight Season.
Having adapted and directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet the past two seasons with CYPT’s Conservatory, Anton deGroot returns for a third consecutive summer to head up the project. deGroot has wrapped up a busy theatrical season himself having worked extensively with Downstage, Sage Theatre and One Yellow Rabbit in various creative capacities. And he couldn’t be more excited to be back!
“Directing CYPT’s Summer Conservatory program is such a treat. The passion of the young actors is always inspiring and the work they come up with – wow!” says deGroot. “It’s so great to be able to give them a taste of the professional theatre world. This program is truly one of a kind and I’m so glad to be a part of it for the third year running.”
