Calgary Young People’s Theatre is pleased to present:
STORYTELLING at the CALGARY INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL.

After the success of last’s years presentation of Tales from the CYPT performed by youth ages 14-17, CYPT is extremely excited to be able to be back on the Festival site for the 2012 Calgary International Children’s Festival. This year we are expanding the opportunity to include youth ages 10-17. Participants will be led through a collaborative process of adapting and creating stories to be presented to audiences of all ages on the outdoor site.
This process will be treated as a class and rehearsal process. Over the course of the process, students will learn about collaborative and creative performance, storytelling, prop making among other skills. These skills will be utilized to create short story performances that are accessible to audiences of all ages.
Our students will be provided with a rare and unique opportunity to not only perform at the Children’s Festival, but to take in what the Festival has to offer as well. Our students will be invited to participate in the following activities at the Festival:
seeing the international performances being featured at the Festival
participate in Festival networking events and discussions
invitation to the Festival Closing Night performance and party

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare a story, no longer than two minutes in length to present to our audition panel. The story can be made up, or already existing. The goal is to find a creative way of presenting the story. Please note that the audition panel may ask you to try telling your story in a different way after your initial presentation. Do not panic, they are just trying to see how you take direction, and how you are able to work with other ideas.

The second part of the audition will be an interview, in which the panel will ask you questions about your goals as an artist, your creative ideas and ways of working etc.
